This was the day of the planned theft. Samantha and I were going to steal the Declaration of Independence. Colleen would be some sort of accessory, but first? The monuments of Washington DC. Here they are in no particular order - not even chronological.
1) Washington Monument.
It's amazing how many structures you can go inside just to see the outside.
There were also some pretty fancy bricks representing the states that we saw while riding the elevator down.
2) WWII Memorial
Of course Samantha and I saw our favourite state represented.
3) Reflecting pool and Lincoln Memorial.
I'd heard Abe was tall, but not that tall.
Here we also saw where Martin Luther King Jr held an audience captive sharing his dream.
4) MLK Memorial.
The inscription on the rock was a lovely tribute. Samantha was a little shocked when she turned the corner.
5) Vietnam War Memorial. I didn't capture a photo of this long list of names stretched across a wall.
6) Korean War Memorial
7) Jefferson Memorial.
This one we waved to across the water.
Next it was time for the National Archives.
The home of the Constitution and of course, the elusive Declaration of Independence. I snuck into the building quite conspicuously in plain sight.
The rest of Operation National Treasure was not photographed. As far as you know the original Declaration of Indepenence remains undisturbed in its glass enclosure.
