After less than 4 hours sleep it was time for Samantha and I to continue on separate American adventures. After 7 months sharing a room and 3 weeks gallavanting around America we parted... but not for good. We've got big plans for the future that might involve a new blog about a continent completely foreign to me.
After farewelling my old roommate and Disney ear wearing travel buddy I set off for the Vegas airport.
I was ready to fly from Vegas to Denver, then onto Kentucky to see my original TSPP twin, Paige and her family. I was even sitting in my plane set. I'd gotten my pillow out and was ready for the greatest sleep of my life. Then an announcement about the cancellation of a connecting flight. Thankfully it wasn't mine.
My relief was shortly followed by an air hostess approaching me to ask if I'd been told I wouldn't be able to fly out of Denver for a couple of days.
No. Nope. This was news to me. I had to get off the plane and figure out a plan. A snow storm was on the horizon.
I approached a Southwest Airlines counter. Ahead of me in the queue were Amanda and Jason. Their plan was to fly to Indiana, then hire a car and drive to Louisvile, Kentucky.
That sounded like a great plan. Would it be weird if I asked to go with them? It's probably weird, but I have no idea what else to do. No, I really shouldn't ask.
Then Jason pipes up, "Do you want to come with us?"
I immediately answered, yes, momentarily forgetting about stranger danger. They seemed trustworthy. Amanda pronounced Louisville the same way Paige does, which is weird, so I figured they had to legitimately be from Kentucky.
We all retrieved our suitcases from baggage claim and went through security the second time that day. It was then I realised Amanda and Jason had passed stringent, post 9/11, American airport security twice. I was certain they were trustworthy, but I decided it would be best not to let my mum know about my hitchhiking adventures until after arriving in Kentucky.
Expectation: arrive at the Louisville airport at 8:30pm.
Reality: Arrive at the Indianapolis airport after midnight, hire a car with two people I'd met just hours ago in the Vegas airport and arrive in Louisville around 3am.
Of course a selfie was captured to commemorate the interstate journey.
We finally pulled into the rental car return to find Paige, the parents and a couple of boxes of Krispy Kreme donuts waiting for us in their van. Amanda and Jason were dropped off just ten minutes from the Hassons. We dragged our feet and my suitcases through the Hassons' door around 4am.
I was feeling even more hashbrown: blessed when Paige gave me not only an incredibly thoughtful present,
but also a cake.
At this point I wasn't sure if I was eating dinner or breakfast, but this DFEM (Dessert For Every Meal) thing was going down a treat.
It was such a beautiful feeling to crawl into the familiar comfort of my Kentucky bed and sleep well into the following afternoon.
I awoke to a relaxing snow day. My first adopted American family and I kept our pyjamas on and watched Ridiculous Six and Leap Year.
