All of my unbirthdays had been leading up to my 25th birthday on January 20. It was a momentous occasion, which naturally meant more than one day of celebration was required. The mandatory celebrations commenced on what I called my Aussie Birthday on America's January 19. It began with breakfast with Mickey and his posse.
I was the only patron at the table lucky enough to receive the yellow napkin.
I was also given a card that my buddies signed and... a cupcake!
I scored myself a birthday button.
Next on the celebratory agenda was a solo resort hopping, photographic expedition. Yes, I did seem to do a lot of things on my own at Disney. There were some things I didn't want to miss out on. Who knew that just a year later I'd have at least 6 months there to explore?
I hit up the Polynesian resort,
Pop Century,
Art of Animation,
Old Key West,
and Animal Kingdom Lodge. It was here that I ran into roomie Jess and we travelled back to our resort together.
It was then time to prepare for dinner at the Hoop Dee Doo Revue. Don't believe all the rumours you hear about the length of time it takes to travel to the Fort Wilderness Resort. We did have to ask to make sure we were headed in the right direction a few times, with Carlos confusing the name of the show as Scooby Doo Revue and Hoo-dee Doo Revue. My worries about us being late were pointless when we arrived early enough to traipse around the farm.
During the show they asked who was celebrating. With some prompting from Leesh I figured it was my Aussie birthday, so I put my hand up. One of the cast members came over, there was a bit of a deal about the people celebrating various occasions. I thought that would be the extent of my involvement in the show.
But I was wrong. Immediately after dessert was served I was whisked away backstage, told, "When you turn 25 you get to be in a show". Backstage I was given a costume and a line to learn. I was also provided with instructions and was asked if I could handle the task.
It was the best way to celebrate an Aussie Birthday and if I can-can I would do it again.
When I arrived back at the hotel I helped Leesh and the pre-seniors weigh their luggage as they were to fly back to Oz the next day. Many were over their limit, suggestions offered included wearing excessive amounts of clothes and stuffing things inside a hat that would be worn. I stayed with them until it was time for my carriage to turn into a pumpkin and my American birthday to begin.
My birthday was spent in the Magic Kingdom with Alicia and Carlos.
A few birthday button benefits included a cupcake at breakfast with Cindy,
A few birthday button benefits included a cupcake at breakfast with Cindy,
getting into the line to see Tiana even though it had just been blocked off
and a card and grey stuff at dinner with The Beast.
Thank you for a magical birthday, Disney.
When I turned 25 I got to be in a show. I wonder what will happen when I turn 26 at Disney in just a few weeks.
