It's Moving Day

Ok, well even the title is already a lie. It was moving day yesterday, but it's close enough.

It started with me leaving my hotel in a taxi with a super nice driver, unless of course you were slightly too "slow" off the mark at traffic lights and received a honk. I turned up approximately 20 minutes before my check in time and had to wait where I thought I was either near the correct building or I would be shuttled. Both those thoughts were proved inaccurate when we had to walk and then walk and then walk some more. Luckily a Kiwi CP offered to help with my ridiculous amount of luggage.

We finally made it to the Welcome Center where we got housing IDs. Thanks to the humidity, my ID photo largely consists of my hair. It was also there that I discovered I would be staying in a 6 person, 2 bedroom apartment. That room configuration wasn't exactly at the top of my preferences. That's five other people I'd have to share a house with and get along with. **SPOILER** They're names are Crystal, Anna, Cariena and Taylor (still waiting for the last housie) and they're all super awesome AND my roomies don't snore!

I also found out I'd be staying at Chatham Square, which is apparently the most desired complex. It's pretty nice. A photographic tour will be available in the next blog post.

It was also on this day that 4 hours at Walmart taught me splitting the cost of things at least 5 ways is ridiculously cheap. We did a massive group shop first and separated our items into individual trolleys and Taylor had the receipt. As Anna and I were leaving after our slightly smaller personal shops I put some of the items from our previous shop into my backpack. As we were leaving the security gates went off and a staff member approached. After asking if we had any electronics purchases all she needed was to see our receipts. Was I about to have moving day ruined by accusations of theft? Thankfully our arms were so loaded with shopping we were allowed to depart without further investigation.

After almost finishing the great big unpack and a cereal dinner we all went to Crystal's boyfriend's apartment where we met some more people and they showed us some American dances, kind of like the Macarena and Nutbush. We then headed back home, had a chat and jumped into our new beds. My bed, by the way, is not part of the bunk bed configuration. I do, however, almost require a climbing rope to reach it.
