First Taste of Bourbon

Four girls (Anna's friend Hannah had joined us by this stage), doing the casual strut along Bourbon Street.

Suddenly this outgoing local woman appears, asking us where we're from, claiming, "I normally only do this for the guys."

Umm, excuse me? What kind of sordid activities are you suggesting? She was suggesting free shots in test tubes. Hannah and I declined, but Anna and Kyra were keen. Local woman positioned the ends of two test tubes into her mouth, then abruptly upturned them into Anna's mouth to empty the contents. Kyra's shots were next.

Then came the question, "Are you paying together or separately?" Turns out they were not free, but $10 each (plus the exorbitant $6 withdrawal fee). The biggest lesson from the Big Easy? Don't allow yourself to be played. New Orleans is capable of charming your bank account dry, if you let it.

After that little experiment it was time to unleash our best dance moves. Bandstand was the perfect location.

When we arrived there was another lady who was also ready to gift the nightclub patrons with her talent - her interpretive dance talent. Highlights from her repertoire included the tranced lifting of arms and the spacey attempts to hoist herself onto the bar.

Her pink t-shirt and long pink skirt led to the nicknames Miss Pinky and Miss Piggy. The length of the skirt did not stop her hitching the material to reveal her upper thigh. Miss Piggy and her friend's attempts to keep her in line provided endless entertainment.

Briefly fast forward two days ahead where we saw her in the street and Kyra orchestrated this photo. All for the blog, of course. Miss Piggy is the lady in the shades.

After Miss Piggy departed we upped the anti. We upped it so much that Kyra jumped on stage and then the MC carried me to the stage. Kyra in her cute outfit and me in my weird jellyfish dress ripped up that stage.

It wouldn't be the last time Bandstand was occupied with our moves.

The eccentricity of New Orleans captured our imaginations just as the next blog posts about my holiday will capture yours. (Only one half of that sentence is true. I'll let you figure out which half.)
