Cheers to the New Year

Here is a Miami NYE chronology...

September 2013: Other years I have had very last minute NYEs, but not this time. Planning began months ago when we decided we would go to Mango's Tropical Cafe in South Beach.

December 26, 2013: Bought a fancy red dress in New York.

December 29, 2013: Bought hectic heels in Miami.

And then came the big day. December 31, 2013.

4pm: started getting ready.

6pm: took a few selfies and left.

6:30pm: Found a car park. Realised our outfits coordinated with a Camaro so we had to pose with it.

7pm: Did a spot of shopping. Only in Miami do you shop in heels and dresses on NYE. Special thanks to Carlos for carrying the bag.

7:45pm: We couldn't get into Mango's until exactly 8pm, so we sat down. Right near us was a man wearing red speedos, a white fedora and white sandals being lightly slapped with a woman wielding a sandal. That was interesting pre-club entertainment.

8pm: Went into Mango's. Yes, it's true the women didn't have a lot of material covering their own mangoes.

8:15pm: Found the festive head gear and took some photos. We also sampled the Moet.

8:30pm: My ceviche (pronounced serveechay) was served with a flower on top and a side of a Mariachi band. Carlos was even handed the microphone to offer a brief solo.

9pm: The entertainment started. At first I was rather disappointed with the feeble attempts of the scantily clad wait staff, but then came the real entertainment. It varied between flamenco, hip hop and tributes to Michael Jackson.

10:30pm: Danced with a part Puerto Rican, part Cuban 23 year old marine.

11:50pm: We ventured outside the club to say our final goodbyes to 2013 and a big hello to 2014 with some fireworks. Of course our view was slightly obstructed by a palm tree. The streets of Miami would be empty without them.

12:30am: Danced to a Macklemore song, in amongst all the Latino sounds.

1:30am: Started the great journey out of South Beach back to the apartment.

2:20am: A driver behind us got a little excited and crashed into the back of us, but only damaged his ego.

3:30am: Arrived back at the apartment.

4am: Carlos and I sang "Let's Go Fly a Kite" (his new favourite song) at Alicia with party horns and twirly things because it was too early to go to bed and we wanted to finish watching Mary Poppins. (After seeing Saving Mr Banks at the movies it came to our attention that Carlos had not seen the Disney classic).

4:30am: Decided to call it a night morning.

I didn't have a bucket list before my grand adventure, but I think my bucket list would now look a little like this:
  • Christmas in New York
  • NYE in Miami
  • Birthday in Disney World
