Go With the Flow

Our second day in The Bahamas was spent in Nassau. It was raining, so many passengers stayed on the ship. I saw the rain as an excuse for the most fashionable of wet weather attire. The poncho. Yes, I am aware of how good it looks.

Once again we hadn't booked any excursions through Carnival. Anna and I opted for a " two hour" $20 tour of the island with a local. A Canadian family from a Disney cruise that docked the same day joined us.

Our first stop was the resort, Atlantis.

The driver informed us we would be picked up in an hour. Really? We're going to spend a whole hour walking around a hotel? It turned out to be the perfect amount of time.

We saw this sculpture Elsa had dropped off.

Sat in the million dollar chair. Big enough to make anybody feel small.

We ambled through the Casino

past crazy coral above our heads.

Security stopped us before we could venture too far. Apparently we didn't fit in with the high rollers. Personally, I think they were jealous of my ensemble. Who doesn't love looking like a fabulous, orange blob?

Shortly after window shopping, the tour of Nassau resumed. Our next stop was the John Waitlings Distillery tour.

The free piña colada sample ruined all other piña coladas. We perused the distillery hoping for another free sample.

The Canadian family we were with purchased a sample of the rums and let Anna and I try them.

(That's the dad from the Canadian family.)

Anna tasted each of the rums.

I smelt the first one and that was more than enough for me.

We entered the third hour of our "two hour" tour and were driven to the water tower that supplies the water for the island.

We saw a fort.

Then we were told we could see The Queen's Steps. Do I really care about steps, even though they are the queen's? The answer is yes.

It took 600 slaves 16 years to carve out 66 steps in honour of the reign of Queen Victoria.

Our final stop on the tour was the local fish fry.

I still don't fully understand what a fish fry is exactly, but I think it has something to do with eating fish as opposed to red meat. So conch fritters it was.

Of course we shared a piña colada again.
Anna managed to snap sneaky photo of the Canadian family. I can't remember their names, but they were super lovely.

While we were eating, our driver had picked up his son from school. All eight of us hopped into the van to head back to the ship. We had reached the fourth hour of the two hour tour. There was plenty more to see, but the Carnival Sensation awaited our presence before sailing back to Florida.
